In 1990, he returned to Penn as a faculty member—a lecturer in the department of general honors, which encompassed the University Scholars and Benjamin Franklin Scholars programs and united students from Penn’s four undergraduate schools. He lectured in this program until 2006. He also held lectureship positions in Penn Law (1993-1995) and in Penn’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (1995-2006).

He is survived by his wife, Miriam (nee Forman); his children, Jonathan (Sandra Itkoff), Deborah (Jonathan Block), and David (Audrey Kraus); and his grandchildren, Leo, Kidist Rose, Aaron, Eli, Hannah, Harry, and Benjamin.
