Lynn Marsden-Atlass, director of the Arthur Ross Gallery, has been appointed Curator of the University Art Collection, effective January 1, 2010, Provost Vincent Price announced.

“In our Arts & The City Year,” said Provost Price, “we are truly fortunate to be able to entrust Penn’s outstanding art collection to a curator and educator with Lynn’s wide range of experience.  I am confident that she will build on the remarkable legacy of Jackie Jacovini, who has served Penn with great distinction for more than 25 years, in making art a vital part of our daily lives on campus.”

Ms. Marsden-Atlass, who will continue to direct the Arthur Ross Gallery, previously served as senior curator of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where her work included the landmark exhibitions In Private Hands: 200 Years of American Painting and Thomas Eakins and His Legacy.

She has also been curator of American and Contemporary Art at the Chrysler Museum; director of the Consortium of Colleges Abroad in Paris; and associate director and registrar of the Colby College Museum of Art.  She earned an MA in art history from the University of Chicago and a BA in art history from Lake Forest College (Almanac February 12, 2008).

The University of Pennsylvania Art Collection encompasses more than 6,000 objects and artifacts, collected over more than 250 years, including all the sculptures displayed on campus and the historic Thomas Eakins painting The Agnew Clinic.
