Task Force on Retirement Benefits
President
Judith Rodin and Provost Robert Barchi have formed a Task
Force on Retiree Health Benefits and TDAs responding to
the recommendations made in the May 2002 report of the
Task Force on Faculty Retirement (Almanac September
10, 2002) that these issues be periodically reviewed as
circumstances warra nt. The rising cost of health insurance
and the increasing age at which many Americans leave the
work force have driven up costs significantly, causing
many major companies to amend their health insurance and
pension plans.
Members
of the Task Force have been asked to consider how University
contributions to the health insurance and TDA programs
might be modified without compromising the University's
ability to attract and retain excellent faculty and staff.
Dr.
Olivia Mitchell, International Foundation of Employee Benefit
Plans Professor in the Wharton School, is chairing the
Task Force which has begun meeting and expects to conclude
its work in the fall semester.
