Interim Director of University Communications: Phyllis HoltzmanPhyllis Holtzman, Senior Manager of University Communications, has been appointed Interim Director of University Communications in the Office of University Relations, Vice President Stephen Schutt announced. "Phyllis Holtzman has great talent and broad knowledge of the University, and I know she will do an outstanding job as interim director," Mr. Schutt said. He added that a search is actively underway for a permanent replacement for Kenneth Wildes, former Director of University Communications. Ms. Holtzman began her assignment as Senior Manager of University Communications in April 1998, after 10 years in various senior positions in communications and public affairs at the University. She was a correspondent for the Philadelphia Inquirer prior to her appointment at Penn in January 1988. |

Director of Athletic Communications: Carla ShultzbergCarla Shultzberg has been named Director of Athletic Communications. Ms. Shultzberg has been with the University for the past five years in the Office of Athletic Communications. "Since coming to Penn, Carla has impressed our coaches and staff with her dedication and commitment to our athletic programs," said Director of Athletics Steve Bilsky. "I look forward to her taking on new responsibilities as the director of our Athletic Communications operation." Since arriving at Penn in September of 1995, Ms. Shultzberg has taken on increasingly more responsibility on a yearly basis. She started her tenure as an intern in the office of Athletic Communications, serving as the primary media contact for 11 intercollegiate programs, before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Communications Director in July of 1997. Since that time, Ms. Shultzberg has been involved in a variety of special events sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania and has served as the primary contact for four varsity sports (women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and women's lacrosse). Ms. Shultzberg most recently served as the Media Relations Chair for the 2000 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four at the First Union Center. She was also the Media Relations Coordinator for the 104th, 105th and 106th Penn Relay Carnivals held at Franklin Field and the Media Relations Coordinator for the 1998 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship held at Franklin Field. Her responsibilities as Director of Athletic Communications will continue to include serving as editor of the athletic department's quarterly newsletter, PennSport! and serving as editor of Penn's football (Franklin Field Illustrated) and men's basketball (Palestra Illustrated) game-day programs, as well as coordinating the Penn Athletics web site, PennAthletics.com. |
