Members of the Daedalus Quartet and pianist Gregory DeTurck will honor Pulitzer prize-winning composer Penn Professor Emeritus Richard Wernick (Almanac April 26, 1977) with performances of some of his greatest works on February 25 at 8 p.m. in the Rose Recital Room in Fisher-Bennett Hall.
Admission is free, and the program will include his String Quartet No. 6, Pieces of Eight, Suite for Unaccompanied Cello and Piano Trio No. 1.
Praised by The New Yorker as “a fresh and vital young participant in what is a golden age of American string quartets,” the Daedalus Quartet has established itself as a leader among the new generation of string ensembles.
In the 13 years of its existence the Daedalus Quartet has received plaudits from critics and listeners alike for the security, technical finish, interpretive unity and sheer gusto of its performances. The award-winning members of the Daedalus Quartet hold degrees from the Juilliard School, Curtis Institute, Cleveland Institute and Harvard University.
