The University of Pennsylvania is hosting a symposium on October 11, Legacy and Innovation: Unlocking Value in Regional Energy Assets. The symposium will bring together regional and national leaders across urban policy, planning, design, innovation and economic development to discuss a future for the Philadelphia region, with the aim of generating an actionable research agenda that can be applied to other metropolitan areas across the country and the world.
The day-long symposium will include four panels, featuring Penn faculty and distinguished guests, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Fitts Auditorium at Penn Law School: Compelling Cases; Legacy Cities, Legacy Assets; Innovation and Its Drivers; and Strategies for Unlocking Value. The symposium will open with remarks by Penn Provost Vincent Price, and Dean Marilyn Jordan Taylor of the Penn School of Design will introduce a keynote speech by Bruce Katz of The Brookings Institution. Mayor Michael A. Nutter will introduce a speech by Navarrow Wright of Starfish Media Group.
The symposium is supported by the Provost's Interdisciplinary Seminar Fund and several Penn Schools and centers, including PennDesign, Penn Law, Wharton IGEL and Penn IUR. All Penn Faculty are invited and encouraged to attend, to join the discussion, and to help explore opportunities for collaborative research across disciplines.
