Assistant professor of nursing Dr. Maureen George was selected for the Dean’s Award for Exemplary Teaching for demonstrated excellence in teaching that includes knowledge of the subject matter, innovative teaching methods, fostering professional development and accessibility. “Professor George is a committed teacher with an innovative approach to nursing education,” her colleagues wrote. “For example, for a class on ‘Therapeutic Communication,’ Professor George grounded her lecture in important theoretical precepts and delivered each item clearly and succinctly. But it was her creativity and sense of humor that drove her points home to students and made them memorable.”

Dean's Award for Undergraduate Scholarly Mentorship
Assistant professor Dr. Tanja Kral was selected for the Dean’s Award for Undergraduate Scholarly Mentorship. Dr. Kral was selected for her dedication to seeing her students succeed at both the academic and professional level. “Professor Kral is marked by a true interest in her students’ work and a welcoming open door to students at all stages in their academic careers,” one student wrote. “Her knowledge and background have lent a unique perspective to our work together and I look forward to continue collaborating with her.”

Dean's Award for MS/MSN Scholarly Mentorship
Practice assistant professor Dr. Wendy Grube was selected for the Dean’s Award for MS/MSN Scholarly Mentorship. Dr. Grube was selected for her exceptional mentorship to master’s students in the development of masters nursing research. “Ask anyone, and they will tell you that Dr. Grube is tremendously hard working,” her students wrote. “However, she is never too busy to meet with her advisees/students to offer encouragement, support, or to just talk about our expectations, hopes and fears. Her approachable nature makes her students feel comfortable and invites inquiries, discussion, and debate about many highly sensitive topics of women’s healthcare.”

Dean's Award for Exemplary Professional Practice
Assistant professor of pediatric nursing Dr. Sharon Irving was selected for the Dean’s Award for Exemplary Professional Practice for excellence in clinical or professional practice and the integration of practice to scholarship and teaching. “We believe Dr. Irving represents all the clinician-educator role embodies,” her colleagues wrote. “Her deep clinical expertise, her leadership of multidisciplinary teams and her own research changes the care of vulnerable and critically ill children.”
Assistant professor of nurse anesthesia Dr. Kelly Wiltse Nicely was selected for the Dean’s Award for Exemplary Professional Practice for excellence in clinical or professional practice and the integration of practice to scholarship and teaching. “In her current position as assistant professor of nurse anesthesia, Dr. Wiltse Nicely truly fulfills the School of Nursing’s tripartite mission of research, education and practice,” wrote her colleagues. “Despite spending much of her time in the operating room, Dr. Wiltse Nicely has made significant contributions that have offered new and critical information to the field of health outcomes research. She is also dedicated to teaching at all levels, ranging from undergraduates to post-doctoral fellows.”

Lecturer Christine Mulligan was selected for the Award for Teaching Excellence by Non-Standing Faculty for demonstrated excellence in teaching that includes knowledge of the subject matter, innovative teaching methods, fostering professional development and accessibility. “Professor Mulligan has been instrumental in preparing me to provide advanced practice mental healthcare that is evidence-based, efficacious, and individualized,” wrote one student. “She is always prepared and highly organized, her assignments are creative and challenging and her feedback is invaluable.”

Dean’s Award for Exemplary Citizenship
Dr. Hildagarde Reynolds Endowed Term Professor of Primary Care Nursing Dr. Ann O’Sullivan was selected for the Dean’s Award for Exemplary Citizenship for her significant contributions and service to the School over time. “Dr. O’Sullivan has given tireless leadership work in translating the Consensus Model into action plans for schools of nursing and professional associations across the country,” her colleagues wrote. “Dr. O’Sullivan is also committed to service that builds interdisciplinary experiences. She serves as an active member of the faculty who support the University’s Bridging the Gaps program. This program brings faculty from medicine, dental, law, nursing and social policy together with 50 students from the respective schools for an intensive, six-week, fulltime community service project. At the same time, she continues her practice at CHOP University City Primary Care Center.”

SNAP Undergraduate Award for Teaching
Advanced senior lecturer Beth Quigley was selected for the SNAP Undergraduate Award for Teaching for her excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, knowledge of the subject matter, ability to stimulate student interest and professional development, innovative teaching methods, and responsiveness to students. “Professor Quigley is very understanding, and she takes the time to help you learn from a mistake you may make in lab,” wrote one student. “She makes students feel more comfortable to try new things and techniques because they know Professor Quigley will not be mad but will use this moment to teach the class something new.”

Lecturer Patricia Pawlow was selected for the GSO Outstanding Nurse Educator Award/MSN Award for Teaching for her excellence in teaching at the master’s level, knowledge of the subject matter, ability to stimulate student interest and professional development, innovative teaching methods, and responsiveness to students. “Patty is very engaging in her lectures as well as extremely approachable,” her students wrote. “She is reasonable and willing to do whatever it takes to keep students moving forward.”
