AMA’s Moving from an Operational Manager to a Strategic Leader; November 8, 9; 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; $75. A good leader knows how to be decisive and move people forward. And now’s your chance to make your mark! This two-day program will teach you how to anticipate, initiate and manage change. You’ll learn how to think strategically, take risks and be persuasive in order to add value to your organization.
Brown Bag Matinee—Conflict Resolution; November 15; 11 a.m.–noon; free. Addressing conflict in the workplace helps to prevent unproductive behaviors like resentment, displacement, and defensiveness. This video will help you find win-win solutions to solving problems and improving morale. You’ll learn about causes of conflict in the workplace, how to resolve them, and how to communicate effectively.
Diversity Brown Bag—Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); November 16; noon–1 p.m.; free. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) provides protection from discrimination on the basis of disability. This workshop will give you an overview of the ADA and how to apply it to Penn. You’ll learn about relevant Penn policies, the best ways to identify reasonable accommodations, how to incorporate people with disabilities into the workplace, and more.
Unlocking the Secrets of the Penn Library; November 16; noon–1:30 p.m.; free. Discover the ways the library can work for you. Learn how to access over 10,000 electronic journals and reference sources, get personalized research assistance, or simply take out the latest New York Times bestseller. This session includes a 30-minute walking tour of Van Pelt-Dietrich Library. Participants are welcome to attend just the informational session.
Webinar—Writing to Make a Difference; November 16, 30; 12:30–2 p.m.; $40. Want to inspire people with your writing? This webinar is for you! We’ll show you how to grab your readers so they believe in your message and act on it. You’ll learn the ABC’s of copywriting, how to assess the needs of your audience, and how to effectively edit your work.
Career Focus Brown Bag—Network for Success; November 19; 1–2 p.m.; free. Creating and maintaining a strong network can help you advance professionally and personally, but it’s not always easy. This workshop will teach you the ins and outs of networking. You’ll gain a better understanding of what networking is, why it’s important, and how to create your own networking plan.
Mastering Resilience; November 28; 9 a.m.-noon; $50. Life can change at a moment’s notice. But good leaders know how to move forward in uncertain times—and we can show you how. This workshop will teach you how to be a top-notch leader no matter what the circumstances. You’ll learn how to maintain a successful work environment, even when life throws you a curve ball. You’ll also explore new ways of meeting your workplace goals and learn strategies to help your staff overcome resistance to change.

Managing Up; November 7; noon–1 p.m.; free. Having a positive and productive work relationship with your supervisor is vital. This workshop will teach you how to manage yourself in a way that promotes an effective partnership between you and your supervisor. You’ll learn how to be assertive and how to communicate with your supervisor so they understand your work style and how to maximize your productivity.
Relaxing Ways to Manage Your Stress; November 28; noon–1 p.m.; free. Don’t let stress take a toll on your wellbeing. We can show you how to win the war on stress and become a pro at tackling tension. Come learn about different relaxation tools, guided imagery practices, and a variety of breathing and muscle relaxation techniques that you can use at work and at home.
