In what has become an annual tradition, the Bookstore is set to host a robust line-up of discussions and book signings in celebration of Black History Month throughout February. The events include:
Wednesday, February 15, at 6 p.m., Joan Myers Brown and the Audacious Hope of the Black Ballerina: A Bio-History of American Performance. Temple University emerita professor Brenda Dixon-Gottschild leads a discussion in a historical look at the career of Joan Myers Brown, legendary artist and founder of the Philadelphia Dance Company. The Bookstore has partnered with the Penn Center for Africana Studies for this event.
Thursday, February 16, at 4 p.m., Fundraising at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Penn GSE professor Marybeth Gasman and Nelson Bowman III, Prairie View A&M University, will offer recommendations and an all-campus approach on the subject of fundraising strategies.
Thursday, February 23, at 2 p.m., Global Masculinities and Manhood. A panel discussion, led by University of Pennsylvania visiting scholar Murali Balaji, into what defines a man within his own culture.
