Weekly Summer Farmers’ Market to Launch at the Radian Plaza
May 25, 2010, Volume 56, No. 34

University City District (UCD), the nonprofit neighborhood improvement organization in West Philadelphia, in partnership with The Food Trust, The Rotunda and Inland American Retail Management LLC, announces the launch of the Friday Farmers’ Market @ The Radian. This new market will be held every Friday in June and July from noon-2 p.m. at the plaza in front of The Radian at 3925 Walnut Street.

It will feature a variety of Pennsylvania’s delicious foods sold by local growers themselves, including fresh, fruits and vegetables, sustainably raised meats, and fresh breads and baked goods.

“The Food Trust is excited to be a partner in this summer’s farmers’ market at The Radian.  We’re pleased to offer University City shoppers another fun and convenient opportunity to buy fresh produce from local farmers,” added The Food Trust’s Nicky Uy.

In addition to fresh and local foods, the market will be complimented with intimate performances by a variety of exceptional Philadelphia musicians and ensembles including the West Philadelphia Orchestra and Unidos da Filadelfia. Located in the heart of University City and within feet from popular offerings such as Capogiro Gelato Artisans, The Bridge Cinema, the Iron Chef-owned Bobby’s Burger Palace, and Metropolitan Bakery, 40th and Walnut Street has quickly become one of the most diverse destinations in Philadelphia.

“University City District is pleased to be able to present this Farmers’ Market program offering fresh produce and farm goods to the University City community. We selected “The Radian” because it’s a unique public space affording us the ability to program the plaza. We’re targeting area employees, students and neighbors with the ultimate goal of getting them access to healthy foods while adding music to enliven the area,” said Lori Brennan, director of marketing and communications.

Friday Farmers’ Market @ The Radian is presented by University City District, The Food Trust, The Rotunda, and Inland American Retail Management LLC with support from Intech Construction and generous media sponsorship from Grid Magazine, Philadelphia Weekly, Campus Philly, and the University City Review.
