The Burrison Gallery at the University Club presents Recent Paintings by Joan Weston, now through December 19. Joan Weston, director of admissions and financial aid at the School of Design, has been painting landscapes in oil and watercolor for over 30 years. The constant shifting of light and atmosphere of the landscape offers her endless possibilities through which to explore various relationships between color and form. Ms. Weston paints outside on location, from photographs of sites and from memory. When looking for new subjects, she seeks particular qualities within the landscape, such as the juncture of a series of hills with the sky or the fog lifting from a mountain, which evoke particularly powerful feelings. Thus, her paintings are not just framed views, but also personal responses to the landscape before her. Through such works Ms. Weston hopes to share her sense of discovery with the viewer. Her show at the Burrison Gallery will include paintings in oil which she has created over the past two years.
