Mr. Whittock, Dental Medicine
John Melville Whittock, Jr., former director of the School of Dental Medicine’s library, died November 16, 2007 in Nassawadox, VA. He was 91.
Mr. Whittock graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1939 with a degree in biology. He studied medicine for four years at Penn’s School of Medicine but did not take a degree. He earned his master’s degrees from Penn in public health in 1942, from Temple University, in psychology in 1950, and from Drexel University in library science in 1952.
Mr. Whittock served as the director of the Leon Levy Library, School of Dental Medicine and director of Penn’s Thomas W. Evans Museum and Dental Institute, from 1965 until 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Upshur Whittock; daughter, E. Revell Martin; and two granddaughters.
