UCD Partnering with City-wide Spring Cleanup: April 5
March 18, 2008, Volume 54, No. 25

For University City District’s (UCD) first cleanup of 2008, the Special Services District is teaming up with Mayor Michael Nutter and the entire City of Philadelphia in an effort to remove over 1 million pounds of litter on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

UCD’s Executive Director Lewis Wendell added, “When the City’s Managing Director’s Office invited us to participate, we were eager to collaborate and marshal our resources to coordinate with this city-wide cleanup. UCD is thrilled to partner with the City of Philadelphia in accomplishing the stated goals of making the city cleaner, raising awareness about litter prevention, and instilling neighborhood pride.”

“Our plan is to recruit thousands of Philadelphians to help clean major sections of our city; to raise awareness about litter prevention; to instill neighborhood pride and civic responsibility in residents in an effort to keep our city clean each and every day,” said Mayor Nutter in a letter to the City’s community partners.

UCD will assist University City blocks, block captains and neighbors by providing trash bags, work gloves, and trash/litter pick up. For information or to sign up for the April 5 University City Cleanup, contact Dexter Bryant at dexter@ucityphila.org or (215) 243-0555 x239.

University City residents who RSVP by March 31 will be invited to a post-clean party from 2-4 p.m. at The Restaurant School, for complimentary pizza and soft drinks.
