Free Vascular Screening
October 23, 2007, Volume 54, No. 9

Specialists from the University of Pennsylvania Health System, who treat vascular diseases such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), stroke and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), will offer free screenings on Wednesday, October 31 for these conditions.

PAD is described as poor circulation in the legs. This serious condition is often ignored, but can more than double one’s risk of heart attack or stroke. AAA can lead to a ruptured aneurysm, causing severe internal bleeding. Those who are most at-risk include people over age 50, people who smoke or have smoked, and those who have diabetes.

Space is limited. Participants who register in advance will also be screened for stroke risk.

The screenings will be done in Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call (215) 615-4135.
