Dr. Lenore Kurlowicz, associate professor of geropsychiatric nursing–clinician educator, died September 21 at age 54.
Dr. Kurlowicz was appointed assistant professor of geropsychiatric nursing–clinician educator in 1997 and was then promoted to associate professor this year. In addition to serving on the Penn Nursing faculty, Dr. Kurlowicz also attended Penn as a student, earning her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Penn Nursing. Her clinical scholarship and teaching focused on the study of the theory and clinical treatment of geriatric psychiatric mental health with a focus on depression and other cognitive status changes in older adults. She published widely on the assessment and treatment of depression, including the benefits of psychiatric nurse interventions for older hospitalized patients. Dr. Kurlowicz was a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Dr. Kurlowicz is survived by her mother, Marie Siedlarz Kurlowicz; sisters, Anna Marie Segal and Marci Ann Kurlowicz; nieces; great-nieces and nephews.
