Dr. Jason Karlawish of Penn Medicine, will present this year’s Annual PASEF Lecture on Successful Aging–What Is It And How Can We Achieve It. Dr. Karlawish is a geriatrician with a clinical focus on cognitive aging. He will discuss the concept of successful aging. He will review what is known and what is not known about how best to achieve successful aging and what kind of research and policy is needed for America to achieve it. His talk will include a review of the history of successful aging and then remarks on the common problems experienced among the elderly, conditions known as the geriatric syndromes. He will examine what is known about what prevents and treats these syndromes.

The Annual Lecture will be held in conjunction with and just before the University’s 25 Year Club Annual Dinner on October 11,  at 3 p.m. The lecture hall is the Wu Chen Auditorium of the Levine Building in the SEAS complex between 33rd and 34th Streets off of Walnut Street. The 25 Year Club Dinner will take place at 5 p.m. in Houston Hall.

Dr. Karlawish is associate professor in the department of medicine, Division of Geriatrics, senior fellow of the Center for Bioethics, fellow in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. He is the associate director of the Penn Memory Center, the clinical component of Penn’s NIA-funded Alzheimers Disease Core Center and the director of the Center’s Education and Information Transfer Core.
