2008 Models of Excellence Program

Nominations due by November 12

Models of ExcellenceExtraordinary customer service. Innovative leadership. Substantial cost-saving efforts. Outstanding supervisory skills. We know Penn staff members go above and beyond the call of duty every day.  The University wants to recognize and reward these staff members, but we need your help to find out who they are and what they’ve accomplished. How can you help? Send us nominations for the Models of Excellence program! If you know of individuals or teams of staff members who have achieved something noteworthy, nominate them for a Models of Excellence award. If you know of an outstanding supervisor, nominate him/her for the Model Supervisor Award. All nominations for this year’s program are due by Monday, November 12, 2007. See below for more information about the Models of Excellence program, including how to submit a nomination.

Components of The Models of Excellence Program
Models of Excellence–Recognizes notable staff member accomplishments at Penn that reflect initiative, leadership, increased efficiency and a deep commitment to service.

Model Supervisor Award–Honors “model” supervisors for the behaviors that make them successful and constructive contributors to Penn. 

Commitment to Excellence–Provides leadership with a vehicle for recognizing outstanding commitment to the University in times of unprecedented, extraordinary situations.

Nomination Deadline
• Nominations for both Models of Excellence and Model Supervisor awards are due by November 12, 2007.
• Commitment to Excellence nominations are received as events occur.

Selection Committee
An annually rotating Selection Committee identifies the preferred nominations for Models of Excellence and Model Supervisor recognition. Each year, the Selection Committee includes a new group of campus leaders, previous Models of Excellence award winners, and other faculty and staff members representative of the diversity of our institution. Commitment to Excellence recognition is determined by Penn leadership.

Notification
Staff members chosen for Models of Excellence recognition or accorded an Honorable Mention will be notified in January.  Finalists for the Model Supervisor Award will be notified in March, and the winner will be announced–live–at the spring Models of Excellence Awards Ceremony. Notification of Commitment to Excellence recognition is at the discretion of leadership. Information about all Models of Excellence program honorees will be publicized broadly to the campus community, and the honorees will be acknowledged at the spring Models of Excellence Awards Ceremony. 

Awards
A cash prize of $500 and a symbolic award are provided to each staff member identified as a Model of Excellence winner as well as the Model Supervisor winner.  A cash prize of $250 and a symbolic award are provided to each staff member accorded a Models of Excellence Honorable Mention as well as the Model Supervisor finalists.  Commitment to Excellence awards are given at the discretion of the nominator.

Celebration
A Ceremony and Reception for all honorees will be held in Spring 2008. All members of the campus community are invited. If you would like to attend, please email Human Resources at QOWL@hr.upenn.edu or call (215) 898-1012.
