Acting Dental Dean: Tom Sollecito
September 4, 2007, Volume 54, No. 2

In late July, Dean Marjorie Jeffcoat of the School of Dental Medicine became seriously ill and was admitted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she remains hospitalized. In consultation with a broad group of department chairs, President Amy Gutmann and Provost Ronald Daniels asked Dr. Tom Sollecito, the associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Dental Medicine, to assume Dean Jeffcoat’s responsibilities on an acting basis. “We have great confidence that Dr. Sollecito’s deep understanding of the School of Dental Medicine, and experience with the accreditation process, will ensure the continuity of leadership during Dean Jeffcoat’s illness and recovery.  We will make ourselves personally available to him during this transitional period, to provide whatever support the School requires,” they said. “On behalf of the School and the University, we have conveyed our collective wishes for Dean Jeffcoat’s recovery to her husband, Bob Jeffcoat. He has asked that no visits be made until her condition improves.”
