Injury Avoidance–Health Promotion

Keep Moving: How to Keep Your Joints Healthy; April 18; noon to 1 p.m.; free. Attend this seminar to learn more about the degenerative process as it affects your knees and hips as a result of normal aging or trauma.  Find out about early diagnosis, evaluation and management as well as preventative measures, surgical treatments, and non-surgical alternatives. This workshop will be led by Dr. Craig Israelite, M.D., assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Career and Life Strategies for Baby Boomers

If you’re part of the Baby Boomer generation, the Career and Life Strategies for Baby Boomers series is designed to help you deal with the decisions and challenges you’re now facing.  The next workshop in this series is listed below. How Will I Spend My Time?; April 19; noon to 1:30 p.m.; free. This session offers a self-assessment process to help you think about how you’ll want to spend your time in retirement. Analyzing your current likes/dislikes and favorite activities in your leisure time will help you choose retirement involvements which will be interesting and meaningful to you.

Career Focus Brown Bag–Success Interviewing; April 5; noon to 1 p.m.; free. This workshop will address elements of effective interviews, how to prepare for interviews, the types of interviews you might encounter, how to present yourself and your skills effectively, and the importance of nonverbal communication. 

Brown Bag Matinee–Think or Sink; April 11; noon to 1 p.m.; free. Learn how to apply collective team thinking skills to solve problems, exploit opportunities and make better decisions. To work as an effective winning team, we must be able to think together as a team. 

Career Focus Brown Bag–Negotiating a Salary; April 21; noon to 1 p.m.; free. This workshop will address questions about moving on to your next job, including how to communicate your salary requirements effectively–often an uncomfortable topic for candidates. Leaving a position professionally is always important; we’ll also talk about giving notice, wrapping up and leaving your job in great shape.

Professional Development Program–Administrative Professional’s Day; April 26; noon to 1:30 p.m.; $20. Join your colleagues for lunch and celebrate “your” day while you enjoy a special session–Dressing for Professional Success —featuring experienced career and image consultant Jane Finkle. During this 90-minute session, you’ll learn practical tips on how to present yourself professionally and how to build your working wardrobe in practical and economical ways. This annual event in honor of our administrative professionals includes lunch and door prizes and promises to be both fun and informative.

Professional Development Program–Franklin Covey’s “Project Management;” April 27; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; $60. This program provides a practical, easy-to-understand approach for creating, planning, and tracking meaningful projects that produce the desired results–on time and within budget. Learn how to define project objectives and expectations; break projects into clear, manageable pieces; monitor and track results; and create and adhere to realistic schedules.
