Randall Wright: James Joo-Jin Kim Professor in Economics

Randall Wright

SAS Dean Rebecca W. Bushnell announced the appointment of Dr. Randall Wright to the James Joo-Jin Kim Professorship in Economics. Dr. Wright is highly regarded in the field for his contributions to macro, labor and monetary economics. In addition to his work in the department of economics, he is a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research and a regular visitor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. 

Dr. Wright has published more than 70 articles, including several prize-winning contributions. He is editor of International Economic Review and has served on the editorial boards of American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory and other major journals.

Among his many honors, he received a Hoover Institution National Fellowship and is an elected fellow of the Econometric Society.  At Penn, he has been a holder of the Joseph M. Cohen Term Chair in Economics, the William Smith Term Chair and the Ronald S. Lauder Endowed Term Chair in Economics.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Wright has worked as a consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.  He holds his bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

This chair was established by Trustee James Joo-Jin Kim, W ’59, G ’61, Gr ’63 to support a preeminent scholar and teacher in the department of economics. Mr. Kim is the founding chairman and CEO of Amkor Technology, Inc., a leading independent provider of semiconductor packaging and test services. He is a former member of the SAS Board of Overseers and a longtime advocate for the Korean Studies program and the Center for East Asian Studies. Among his many contributions to Penn, Mr. Kim has established the James Joo-Jin Kim Professorship at Wharton  and the James J. Kim Trustee Scholarship.
