Deaths
Mr. Anderson, Engineering
Mr. Elmer H. Anderson, laboratory assistant in the department of materials science and engineering in SEAS, died October 18, at the age of 77.
Mr. Anderson came to Penn in 1966 to the bioengineering and electrical engineering departments, and then in 1978 the LRSM and the department of materials science and engineering. He “officially” retired from his lab assistant position in 1993 but, he remained as a part-time lab assistant until his death.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Ronald; daughter, Kathleen; and three grandchildren.
Memorials for Dr. David DeLaura
The Kelly Writers House, in collaboration with the English department, presents: Teacher, Scholar, Friend: A Celebration of Victorian Poetry in Memory of David DeLaura featuring readings & remembrances by Rebecca Bushnell, Bob Lucid, Nina Auerbach, Wendy Steiner, Roger Abrahams, Vicki Mahaffey and Al Filreis on November 17, at 6 p.m. at the Kelly Writers House. “Join us, his colleagues, family, and former students, for an evening of Victorian poetry in remembrance of this beloved teacher, scholar and friend,” said Dr. Al Filreis, professor of English. A memorial service is also planned for Dr. DeLaura at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 18, on the 6th floor of Van Pelt Library. Dr. DeLaura, Avalon Foundation Professor Emeritus in the Humanities, died on April 9 (Almanac April 19, 2005).
