  • Gastrointestinal Cancer Grants: November 21

The Abramson Cancer Center and the University of Pennsylvania’s NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases are pleased to announce a new, joint RFA for pilot grants focused on gastrointestinal (colon, pancreatic, upper GI, liver) cancer.  We invite basic, translational, and cancer control research proposals in areas including developmental biology, physiology, pharmacology, immunobiology, virology, and genetics as they relate to gastrointestinal cancers.

At least one proposal will be funded through the joint RFA for up to $45,000.  Other meritorious proposals may be funded by the Abramson Cancer Center or the University of Pennsylvania’s NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases for up to $25,000.

Applicants must be a full-time member of the of the University faculty. Non-faculty (e.g. instructors, residents, fellows) are not eligible.  Applicants may either be a new investigator without prior extramural funding or an established investigator making a significant change in the direction of their research. The proposed area of research cannot be funded through an existing or prior peer-reviewed national research grant (i.e., NIH, ACS, DOD).  Proposals must be prepared on the Gastrointestinal Cancer Pilot Program Forms which can be downloaded from the Abramson Cancer Center website (www.penncancer.com/page.cfm?p=137) or the University of Pennsylvania’s NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases (www.uphs.upenn.edu/moleculr/Pilot_Project_Program/index.shtml).  Instructions and the required transmittal form are also available on the websites.  Applications are due November 21, 2005.
