Taking a Realistic Look at Equity Return; May 10; 10-11 a.m.; Ben Franklin Room, Houston Hall. Attend this seminar to obtain a more focused overview of equity investments, gain a realistic perspective of fund performance in the U.S. stock market, and take a look at U.S. equity returns over different time periods.

Know Your Retirement Plan; May 10; noon-1 p.m.; Ben Franklin Room, Houston Hall. Discover the many benefits of participating in Penn’s retirement plan as representatives from TIAA-CREF and Penn’s Division of Human Resources discuss Penn’s retirement plan provisions, investment options, and contribution rates. You will also learn about asset allocation, selecting investments, and the advantage of tax deferral.

The Basics: Making Investing Easy; May 11; 10-11 a.m.; Golkin Room, Houston Hall. This seminar will help you learn how to establish a savings program, discover the differences between investment categories, and determine the right investment mix for you using Vanguard’s Investor Questionnaire.

Know Your Retirement Plan; May 11; 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.;  Golkin Room Houston Hall. Attend this seminar to learn how to determine your net worth, create a spending plan, and manage credit. You will also gain an understanding of basic investment terminology, figure out how to build an appropriate investment portfolio, and understand the importance of planning for the unexpected.

How Much to Save; May 17; 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Golkin Room, Houston Hall. This seminar will help you gain an understanding of how much you need to save for retirement and discover ways to make saving for retirement easier. You will also learn more about how to take full advantage of the University’s retirement plans.

Brown Bag Matinee—The Attitude Virus; May 10; noon-1 p.m.; once an attitude virus begins to spread, it can become an epidemic in no time flat. Productivity suffers and so do individual workers.  Check for these warning signs: resisting change, "It's not my job…", spreading gossip, misdirected anger, condescending perfectionism. Learn how to get to the cause, administer the cure, and create a healthier workplace for everyone.

Career Concepts—Effective Meetings; May 18; 9 a.m.-noon; $50. In most organizations, meetings are liberally used for many purposes including problem solving, making decisions, disseminating information, and creating policies. Learn how to identify the costs and benefits of meetings; how to plan, conduct, and maximize participation to achieve the desired result; develop effective meeting leadership practices; and build confidence in using these practices.

Career Focus Brown Bag–Worksmarts; May 20; noon-1 p.m. This session will give you great advice on how to achieve success in any position.  Whether you want to enrich your current job or prepare for a new one, you will learn important tips on how to “get along, get noticed and get ahead.”

Finding the time to balance your work and home life demands isn’t always easy. That’s why we offer a variety of workshops to provide you with support for your personal and professional life challenges. How to Achieve Work-Life Balance; May 5; 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Come and explore options for creating balance between work and family and self. Participants will learn skills in assessing balance needs; explore options for individual, family, work, community, home, and friends; and learn how to maintain balance, once achieved.

Make Emotions Work for You Professionally & Personally; May 19; 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. This workshop explores how emotions affect our personal and professional lives and how we can harness them to generate positive outcomes. Learn more about the roles of emotions in our lives and develop emotional management techniques.

Heart Health Series

Cholesterol and Diet: Creating a Healthy Partnership; May 25; noon-1 p.m. Learn the difference between blood vs. dietary cholesterol, the role of saturated fat, HDL vs. LDL, and dietary sources of saturated fat and cholesterol. Watch an informative ½ hour video, and then Dr. David Horowitz, Internist, Department of General Internal Medicine, will be on hand to answer your questions.
