Death

Dr. Domingo M. Aviado Sr., Retired Professor of Pharmacology

Dr. Domingo M. Aviado Sr., retired professor of pharmacology, died December 2, 2004 at the age of 80.

A native of the Philippines, Dr. Aviado  graduated from Penn’s School of Medicine in 1948. From 1948 to 1977 he was a member of the department of pharmacology in the School of Medicine, where he retired as a professor of pharmacology. He wrote eight medical books and more than 300 medical articles in professional journals on toxicology and pharmacology. He was a recipient of numerous international awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship Award, the Lindback Teaching Award, and the Oliver Memorial Award, the latter two from Penn. He also received the first President’s Trophy for the Most Outstanding Filipino Abroad in 1976 from then-President Marcos. He served as treasurer of the International Union of Pharmacologists.

Dr. Aviado is survived by his wife, Asuncion Guevara; two sons, Carlos and Domingo; a daughter, Maria Christina Kimble; and five grandchildren.
