School of Medicine Teaching Awards

Clifford Deutschman Robert Wilson

This year there are two recipients of the School of Medicine's Leonard Berwick Memorial Teaching Award: Dr. Clifford Deutschman, professor of anesthesia and surgery, and Dr. Robert B. Wilson, associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine.

 

Jody Foster Laure Veet John Flynn

There are three recipients this year of The Dean's Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching at an Affiliated Hospital: Dr. Jody J. Foster, chair of the psychiatry department at Pennsylvania Hospital and a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry, Dr. Laure L. Veet, assistant professor of medicine at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, and Dr. John M. Flynn, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at CHOP.

 

Donald Schwarz Patricia Labosky

Dr. Donald F. Schwarz, associate professor of pediatrics in the clinical educator  track, with a secondary appointment in Nursing, The Robert Dunning Dripps Memorial Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Patricia A. Labosky, assistant professor of cell and developmental biology, is the recipient of The Dean's Award for Excellence in Basic Science Teaching.

 

Margaret Rukstalis Livija Medne

Dr. Margaret Rukstalis, assistant professor of psychiatry at the VA Medical Center, and the director of the University's Department of Psychiatry Resident Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Clinic, received  The Scott Mackler Award for Excellence in Substance Abuse Teaching.

Livija Medne, a board certified genetic counselor in human genetics & molecular biology and neurology at CHOP, received The Dean's Award for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching by an Allied Health Professional.

 

Tami Benton Helen Davies Steven Galetta

Dr. Tami D. Benton, assistant professor of psychiatry, is the recipient of the  Blockley-Osler Award.

Dr. Helen Davies, professor of microbiology, has received the MSG Teaching Award for Basic Science. This is the 14th time she has won this award. Dr. Davies received a Lindback Award in 1977.

Dr. Steven L. Galetta, Van Meter Professor of Neurology, is this year's recipient of the MSG Teaching award for Clinical Medical Teaching. This is the second time Dr. Galetta has won this award.

 

Carol Deutsch Michael Nusbaum

The Dean's Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Training was established in 1992-93 to recognize excellence in graduate education.

This year the award is presented to two members of the Biomedical Graduate Studies Faculty: Dr. Carol Deutsch, professor of physiology and Dr. Michael Nusbaum, professor of neuroscience.
