SEAS 2004 Teaching Awards
The
School of Engineering
and Applied Science Teaching
Awards were presented on April 27, at the Annual Awards
Recognition Dinner.
Dr.
John Keenan, professor of electrical and systems
engineering, and director of Faculty Advising, was
awarded the School's highest teaching honor, the
S. Reid Warren, Jr. Award. The award is presented
annually by the undergraduate student body and the
Engineering Alumni Society in recognition of outstanding
service in stimulating and guiding the intellectual
and professional development of undergraduate students
in SEAS. "Dr. Keenan is energetic, enthusiastic and
always willing to meet outside of class to help a
student learn the course material. His door is always
open and he is one of the few professors I know who
will reply within five minutes when you send him
an e-mail at 11 p.m. on a Sunday night."
|
Dr.
William R. Graham, professor of materials science
and engineering and undergraduate chair, was awarded
the Ford Motor Company Award for Faculty Advising.
The award recognizes dedication to helping students
realize their educational, career and personal goals.
In the words of a student, "Dr. Graham is very encouraging,
and at the same time realistic. He is extremely knowledgeable
about a great variety of topics, and is able to explain
everything in very simple terms. It is never a chore
to talk with Dr. Graham--he is quite receptive to
ideas, and is the professor whose advice was most
influential in my stay at Penn."
