Vet School Groundbreaking

The School of Veterinary Medicine breaks ground for its first new building in 25 years in Philadelphia on April 17. Festivities will commence at 4:30 p.m. in the school's Old Quadrangle Courtyard, adjacent to the building site. While the ceremony will feature "groundbreaking traditions," carting dogs and rescue dogs will play a role in the event.

The new Animal Bloodmobile can be toured.

The 125,000-square-foot Teaching and Research Building will be erected adjacent to the veterinary school on a lot bound by Baltimore, Woodland, and University Avenues. Designed by Ballinger/Polshek Partnership Architects, it will serve as the school's new academic center and will be completed in September 2006.

The estimated cost of the building is $54 million. More than $49 million has been raised.
