Grants in Diabetes: January 16 The Diabetes Endocrinology Research Center is soliciting applications for pilot and feasibility study grants investigating diabetes and related endocrine and metabolic disorders. Young investigators who are starting their laboratories, or established investigators who wish to take a new direction to their studies, are encouraged to apply. The Pilot and Feasibility Program provides modest research support for a limited time to 1) provide initial support for new investigators; 2) allow exploration of possible innovative new leads or new directions for established investigators in diabetes and 3) stimulate investigators from other areas to lend their expertise to research in this area. We anticipate that awards of up to $50,000 will be made (equipment and travel fund requests are not permitted) and will be funded for one year. Grants will be reviewed by the Diabetes Research Center's Pilot and Feasibility Review Committee and by extramural consultants. Notification of awards will be made in April of 2004. Investigators who are currently in the 01 year of support through this Pilot and Feasibility Program may reapply for an additional year of funding. Such continuation requests need to be carefully justified, however, and will be considered as a competing renewal application. Please submit an original application along with 12 copies to the Diabetes Endocrinology Research Center, 501 Stemmler Hall, by Friday, January 16, 2004. Please note that if the proposed research involves the use of human subjects or vertebrate animals, a grant award cannot be activated without documentation of IRB or IACUC approval. Investigators from CHOP please note that applications must be routed through the Stokes Institute Business Office for review prior to submission to the Diabetes Center.
