Center
for Research in Fibrodysplasia Ossificans
Progressiva and Related Disorders:
2002 Grants -- Call for Proposals
Penn's
Center for Research in Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP)
and Related Disorders seeks applications to its Developmental
Grants Program. Proposals should be related to the research goals
to determine the genetic mutation(s) and molecular pathogenesis
of FOP and to discover knowledge that can be used to develop a
treatment and cure for FOP. Relevant areas of investigation include
developmental biology, regulation of gene expression, genetics
and genetic imprinting, mesenchymal and hematopoietic stem cell
biology, muscle satellite cell biology, immune response mechanisms
to injury, lymphocyte and cytokine biology, osteogenetic induction
signaling pathways including G protein signaling, skeletal patterning
and morphogenesis, apoptosis, and angiogenesis. Of special interest
are proposals to investigate BMP signaling pathways. Awards for
$25,000 to $50,000 per year will be granted based on scientific
merit for one (1) year and are eligible for a (1) year renewal
based on competitive review.
Completed
proposals are due Friday, April, 19, 2002.
