Study and Research in Germany

Social Sciences and Related Disciplines, Fellowship Program
sponsored by the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation in the Republic of Germany

General Description of the Program: The program is intended to provide an opportunity for qualified American university graduates and post doctoral scholars in the social sciences and related disciplines (sociology, political science, economics, history) to familiarize themselves with the current state of research in their field in the Federal Republic of Germany and to conduct independent research. Applicants should have a special interest in contemporary or past German or European affairs and/or German-American relations (particularly comparative studies).

In addition, the program is designed to promote an exchange of information and opinions between Americans and Germans on social and political topics. For this reason, applicants will be expected to show an ability and willingness to engage in political dialogue.

The Friedrich-Ebert Foundation will be able to provide about 15 study and research fellowship for the academic year 2002-2003. There are three types of fellowships being offered on an open competitive basis: Pre-Dissertation/Advanced Graduate Fellowships; Doctoral Research Fellowships; and Post-Doctoral/Young Scholar Fellowships. The closing date for the submission of applications for the academic year 2002-2003 is February 28, 2002.
