IVY DAY STONE FUN FACTS An Ivy Day Stone from the Past Can you place this Ivy Day Stone? Do you know which campus site has been chosen by more graduating classes than any other as the location for the Ivy Day Stone since June 7, 1873? Did you know that for each year between 1926 and 1961, there are two stones, one placed by men and one by women? Do you know where the women's stones were placed? ANSWERS: The 1876 Ivy Day Stone is located on College Hall, the site with the most Ivy Day Stones. College Hall has been selected 43 times by the graduating seniors since the Ivy Day Stone tradition began when the University moved from Center City to the new campus in West Philadelphia. In 1925, Bennett Hall (named for Mary Alice Bennett, the first woman to receive a doctorate from Penn) was completed, and the women's classes from 1926 to 1958 place their own Ivy Day Stones there. From 1959-61, the women's stones were placed on Hill House, then a women's dorm.
