Spring Plant Sale: May 12-13

Spring has sprung at the Morris Arboretum! The Arboretum's Spring Plant Sale, featuring 1,000 kinds of plants begins May 12 and runs through May 13. Additionally, there will be a Members' Preview Sale on Friday, May 11, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. with a fabulous collection of free dividend plants for members. The sale of popular, rare and new plants continues through the weekend, May 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Horticultural experts will be on hand to aid in choosing the best plants for your garden. Select from plants ranging from dawn redwood to a stunning Chinese wax shrub.

Greek Sesquicentennial Gala and Scholarship Auction

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs will celebrate of 150 years of fraternities and sororities at Penn on Thursday, May 17, from 6-10 p.m. at Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue.

The evening will include an historical display, students performing groups and a silent auction to benefit the endowed Greek Scholarship Fund. President Judith Rodin will give a welcome, and David Stollman, Sigma Phi Epsilon Foundation Board of Directors and Campuspeak owner, will give the keynote address.

This event is open to all members of the Penn Greek community, their guests and friends. Ticket prices start at $150 per person for alumni and $80 for students and young alumni ('91-'04).

Walk for Wellness: May 5

The Center of Excellence in Women's Health and the Philadelphia Black Women's Health project are co-sponsoring a Walk for Wellness in West Philadelphia on May 5, starting at 9 a.m. at 4212 Chestnut Street. The 3-mile walk through West Philadelphia will be followed by a mini-health fair at St. Mary's Church at Hamilton Village, along with a raffle and refreshments.

Registration is $5, and commences at 8:15 a.m. the day of the race. Contact JoAnn Binko at (215) 573-3569 for more information.

Almanac May Schedule

Almanac will publish on the following dates in May:

  • May 8--Deadline for Update (covering two weeks: May 15-May 29);
  • May 15--Deadline for Summer At Penn;
  • May 22--No Issue; and
  • May 29--Final spring semester issue.

Contributors are urged to plan ahead, since space will be limited.
