Special Penn Family Picnic and Opening Night Performance
Annenberg Center will kick off its 17th Annual Philadelphia International
Children's Festival tomorrow evening, May 2, with a special Penn
Family Picnic and Opening Night Performance sponsored in part by Sansom
Common. And we'd be delighted if you, your children or grandchildren, and
their friends could join us for one or more of the Festival's wonderful
programs:
- Wednesday Evening, May 2--Penn Family Picnic & Opening Night
Showcase
- Friday Evening, May 4--WXPN Kids' Corner Concert by Tom Paxton
& Friends
- Saturday-Sunday, May 5-6--Children's Festival Indoor & Outdoor
Events
To encourage campus-wide family participation, we are pleased to
offer the Penn community specially discounted $6 tickets for the Wednesday,
May 2 Picnic & Performance and Friday, May 4 Kids Corner Performance
(tickets otherwise priced at $10). To order tickets for the Festival's evening
events and weekend performances, please stop by or call the Box Office at
(215) 898-3900, open Monday-Saturday, between noon and 6 p.m.
The Wednesday, May 2, Opening Night Performance will feature
a 5:30 p.m. Light Picnic of kid's food, soda, ice cream, balloons
and outdoor entertainment on the Annenberg Center Plaza, followed by a 7
p.m. Festival Showcase performance in the Zellerbach Theatre, including
a galaxy of this year's Festival Stars: the music of folksinger Tom Paxton
and the Robert Minden Duo, performances by the Shangri-La Chinese
Acrobats and the N'Dere Ugandan Drummers, and the tomfoolery
of master clown Jim Jackson. The performance will be emceed by NBC-10's
Renee Chenault-Fattah. 
The 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, "Kids' Corner" Concert will
feature WXPN's Cathy O'Connell in a live broadcast from the Zellerbach
Theatre featuring folksingers Tom Paxton, and Ernie & Neil.
The Saturday-Sunday, May 5-6, Weekend Festival will include a
broad range of performances by artists from around the world, plus some
wonderful outdoor activities, including an arts & crafts fair where
kids can make their own special Mother's Day gifts.
