Investments: Landis Zimmerman
Landis Zimmerman, an alumnus who has been associate director of investments
for the Rockefeller Foundation for the past two years, has been named Managing
Director for Investments at the University.
Dr. Kathryn Engebretson, vice president for finance, announced Mr. Zimmerman's
appointment, effective January 19, to oversee the management of the University's
endowment. His responsibilities include assisting Penn's Investment Board
in formulating investment strategy; identifying new investment opportunities;
and evaluating manager performance.
"Under Landis's leadership, I am confident that Penn's Office of
Investments will strategically manage the University's assets to maximize
investment returns and position the University to meet the financial challenges
that lie ahead in the 21st Century," Dr. Engebretson said.
Mr. Zimmerman took his B.A. in econonics in 1981and an M.B.A. in finance
in 1985. He began his career as assistant treasurer at Chemical Bank in
1981. After serving as a vice president at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc.
from 1985 to 1994, he moved to Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. as associate
director until 1996, when he joined the Rockefeller Foundation.
