Faculty/Staff Telephone Directory:

Updating Your Directory Listing for 2001-2002

If you currently have a listing in the University's Faculty/Staff directory, it is important that you visit the Online Directory web site by June 26 in order to be included in the2001-2002 Directory. It is also necessary to visit the site to confirm your record for printing, even if it has not changed from last year's telephone directory. Though updates may be made any time, records updated online by June 26 are assured to be included in the hard-copy directory.

Accessing the On-line Directory

1. Go to www.upenn.edu/directories/dir-update.html (by June 26 for the hard-copy directory)
2. Click on "Online Add/Update Form."
3. Enter your PennNet ID and password. (For more information regarding your PennNet ID and password, go to www.upenn.edu/computing/netid.)
4. To preview your listing, click "Continue - to update or view listings" at the bottom of the form page.

To Confirm Your Current Listing

1. View your information within the form. If there are no changes, click "Confirm Current Listing - no updates"

To update your record in the white pages:

1. Follow the prompts on the form page. Once you have entered and reviewed any revisions, be sure to click "Continue to Update or View Listings."
2. Follow the instructions on the preview page to complete your update.

Summer Energy Conservation--Electrical Demand Saving Drill:

Monday afternoon June 18

In order to measure how much Penn can reduce its electrical consumption at peak times, the Division of Facilities Services has scheduled a peak electrical demand savings drill for Monday, June 18 from 3-3:30 p.m. "On this date and at this time we are asking for your cooperation in turning off all lighting in areas that have any natural day lighting," said Facilities VP Omar Blaik. He continued, "In areas without natural day lighting, but with task lighting, only all overhead lighting should be turned off."

Facilities Services has lowered interior space temperatures during the winter and has raised them for the summer, non-critical and redundant equipment has been identified for potential shutdown and all community members have been asked to turn off all non-essential lighting, computers, printers, radios, etc. at the end of each work day. Now, Facilities Services is taking steps to limit the peak electrical demand. It is the peak usage that determines the University's future rate charges. Monday's drill will allow Facilities Services to measure the lighting load reduction associated with such conservation efforts.

Spruce Street Project Detours

The Spruce St. construction project which includes sidewalk demolition and re-construction, enhancement of street and pathway lighting, installation of trees and subsequent re-surfacing of the Street began this week. The scope of the project includes Spruce St. from 34th St. to 38th St. Starting this week until the projected finish date of October 20, the traffic flow pattern will be as follows: From 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (some Saturdays will be included) Spruce St. will be one-way eastbound with only a single lane of traffic from 38th St. to 34th St. All westbound traffic on Spruce St. from 32nd St. will be detoured northbound at 33rd St. Those who normally use Spruce St. are advised to utilize an alternate route. From the expressway it is suggested that drivers exit either at University Ave. or 30th Street to avoid possible delays. Any building administrator that has delivery issues where Spruce St. must be used please contact Corporal Joseph D. Fischer, Crime Prevention Officer, PH#-215-898-4607-FAX#-215-573-6005 and you will be assisted.

Reminder: Modem Pool For-Fee Service Going Away

The Penn Modem Pool For-Fee Service is going away on June 30, 2001. ISC urges the University Community to sign up for an account with a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP). For help deciding which ISP is best for you, see http://www.upenn.edu/computing/remote/help_chart.html.
