The fence at the entrance to Penn’s New Bolton Center—where Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro is recuperating in the George D. Widener Hospital—is decorated with get-well wishes for the horse that has captured the public’s affection.

Dr. Dean W. Richardson, Chief of Surgery and the Charles W. Raker Professor of Equine Surgery at Penn Vet’s Widener Hospital operated on Barbaro on Sunday, May 21 a day after the colt broke his right rear leg in three places at the Preakness.
